A Message To My Music Students

Dear musical families,

I hope this finds your family safe and well. I wanted to check in and say hello. How has everything been going staying at home and adjusting to our changing world?

My family has made a lot of adjustments in the past two months, most notably adapting our work-life balance with our children and no school, no nanny help, no grandparents help or YMCA daycare help. My ability to see students for music lessons before Covid-19 was made possible by seeing students at the same time as my wife sees clients while our nanny or grandparents took care of our kids. It has been a routine that has worked for us for a long time.

Now when my wife sees clients for her business (over secure video link), I’m with our children during that time and have been doing a lot more cooking, homeschooling and just being more present overall for my little ones. I was hoping to make the transition to doing Zoom meetings for weekly lessons but I’ve been unable to balance the time as I’ve been focusing the majority of my available time on my web design business.

I took some extra time during the first month of quarantine to completely redesign and rebrand myself on my personal website, just in time before a rush of new projects. I welcome you all to check it out and see what I’ve been up to outside of music lessons.

I miss all of my musical families a great deal and am sorry things had to come to an abrupt halt. My family is safe and well, managing the best we can just like everyone else. I’m not sure what the future has in store as we gradually reopen businesses and hopefully begin to feel more comfortable with close human contact again. But I do wish to stay in touch and continue to be a musical resource if possible.

If students wish to have more of a “consultation” with me about music as more of a Q+A session where we are able to talk, share screens and web links as opposed to straight instrumental instruction, I may be open to scheduling a few of these occasionally over Zoom for those most interested. Please contact me to discuss. Otherwise, I will stay in touch and let you know if any of my previous teaching methods become relevant again in the future.

Stay safe, healthy and musical.

All best,

Geoff
